Santa Barbara Senior Pictures – Amberly

Well look who I ran into out in Santa Barbara, California!! This soon to be Valley Christian High School Senior, was looking at colleges while our annual family trip up the coast was coming to an end. Put us together, and you end up with a marathon photo shoot in one of the most beautiful places on the West Coast!

We met at the Santa Barbara Mission and looked for some out-of-the-way places for a photo session inspired by Free People, who doesn’t love that clothing line?!!

Amberly was a natural! The wooded area really went with what we were trying to create, which helped because I had all of about 20 minutes to scout locations, yikes! Good thing there were too many locations to choose from and we have about 7 sessions combined into one! #supersurprisedemojiwithreallybigeyes

I loved shooting in the middle of the day and making use of the speckled lighting in the woods! I usually try and shoot during the magic hour, but loved everything about this full sun session!

This close up is one of my favorites! Anyone that knows Amberly, knows she is super smiley and spontaneous! However, don’t let her beauty fool you – this girl is also very intelligent, thoughtful, and compassionate. She enjoys going on mission trips, walking barefoot, and has a love for God which shines through within her joyful spirit!

I love the feeling of elegance this gorgeous carved stonework created! We figured it would be appropriate to take at least take a few shots by the Free People store!

Even though Amberly decided she didn’t want to attend college in Santa Barbara after graduation, she is looking forward to going to another California school. While attending college in Southern California, she would like to continue to pursue her acting and modeling career.

Senior Photographer – Horse Photography

Horse lovers unite!!

I grew up surrounded by many horse farms and dreamed I’d one day have a horse of my own to “ride off into the sunset”! Sadly, it never happened, but it didn’t stop me from taking riding lessons and being around horses as much as possible! Photographing Athena gave me yet another opportunity to be around my “spirit animal” and we had a majestic afternoon!! horse-photography-scottsdale.01

This girl LOVES horses and even goes to a boarding school that specializes in them across the country! It doesn’t get more horsey then that!! Her gentle demeanor and ease around these gorgeous Arabians, made this photo shoot easy on both me, the trainers, her mom, and the horses.

On her Fall break back here in Arizona, she enjoyed her time reining with her horses and visiting family. We even got in a mother-daughter shot with Myranda, my sweet friend, who loves to sparkle, she owns a diamond store (for all of you brides to be out there!!)

I am wishing this teen super success and congrats on being one of the top in the country for reining with Arabians! I know for sure, she makes her momma proud! I, for one, hope to catch her out doing her thing, real soon! Who knows, maybe I’ll take some a couple of lessons myself again!! :):)

It was a typical sunny day in Arizona, and still a bit warm, so instead of overheating the horses, we took a small walk around the property to get these outdoor shots of her riding this beauty!

If you don’t know much about Arabian reining and would like to know more about it, check online! Or better yet, attend one of the biggest Arabian shows in Scottsdale next winter, in 2017 for the 62nd annual Arabian Horse Show! I’ll see you there!!

Wedding Photos at Papago Park

I’m super excited to share these amazing images of Tess and Zach at Papago Park! When I first moved to Arizona, I missed all the green of home – I kept looking for places, as a photographer, that weren’t so “deserty”! I have learned to appreciate, and literally fall in love with the desert light and pastel colors – for wedding photography, it’s the ultimate! So soft and romantic, it also provides a minimally distracted background that automatically makes subjects pop and allows for interest too! But you know me, I can go on and on about photography LOL!

Zach and Tess were our models for this stylized shoot! They married on October 18th, 2014 in Kansas City, Missouri after meeting in the Army. Tess claims, while Zach was “super cute”, she wanted to be treated just like one of the boys – eventually he won her heart, and they married! They are in Arizona for military training, Zach is training to be a helicopter pilot, and because they never got the photos they wanted that reflected their unique love story, this stylized session allowed them to retell their day the way they wanted! I know many of us who got married a little further back, 20 years for me, would love to go back in time and redo our wedding photos. I may not fit in my dress anymore, but to have an album of Ryan and I, that reflects our personal story, and this gorgeous desert backdrop at Papago Park, would be a treasure!

Chandler Teen Photographer

I hadn’t seen Claire in a couple of years until our recent session in Chandler- does she light up a room, or what!?! Her confident attitude and spunky, fun personality is something to behold! It’s no wonder this teen won a Christian Service Award which included 400 hours of service! Well now she is moving on to even bigger things and is officially ready to be a high schooler and with tons of enthusiasm – she enters Seton High School in the Fall!

Some fun facts about our session:

It was WAYYYY windy out the day of our shoot! Which resulted in some crazy good model like shots with her beautiful blond locks blowing in every direction!

She took three hours to get her hair ready for our session… which the wind paid no mind to, at all!

We went to a new spot for me in Chandler – I loved all the elements of shooting in a more urban setting!

This teen would love to be a model – and I think she has all the right stuff to pursue this dream!

We can still get cold days in Arizona in April, or it can be 100 degrees a day later, sometimes you can’t count count on that sunny Arizona sky!

Claire might take the cake for being the most confident in front of the camera – and that is my personal hope! That teens can be confident in who they are, and feel good about themselves inside and out – it’s actually the number one reason for my photography!

Senior Pictures – Chandler High School

As soon as Halle and I met, I could tell it was going to be a great session! Halle is poised, quiet, and full of class! I loved how inspired she was through dance and music she embraced both of them fully! Each dance pose was executed with precision, the way she carried herself and played her violin, showed both her confidence and sweetness! This senior girl shined through with each click of the camera!

I thought I would spend some time talking about how I work with Seniors today. When a photo session is booked, I spend weeks planning and setting up for their photo session. I send some inspiration photos to help them prepare their look and confidence during our photo session, so by the time they get to the location they know what to expect and have great ideas that personalize their images. When we arrive and start, the creativity unfolds and we let light, the surroundings, and the mood dictate how the images are captured! It is just as fun for me to see the final results, as it is for the model! My high school seniors are involved in choosing their images for their package out of 100 photos and sessions can run up to 2 hours! Time seems like it goes so fast even while we take time at each background.

For this urban senior session, we went downtown Phoenix, Arizona and looked for places that were unique and fun! I love the color of this brick wall and the cool tones of the old bay door, the rundown look and her classic violin provided just the contrast we were looking for in her big city session!
